Jane Birkin is to thank for her namesake Hermès’ handbag after a 1983 airplane encounter with then Creative Director Jean-Louis Dumas where the fashion icon expressed her desire for a spacious replacement to her agenda to fit all her papers and belongings. The duo immediately sketched up the commodious trapezoid prototype which was released a year later complete with its signature sangles straps in honour of the house’s equestrian heritage. This 25cm version boasts the same details as the original, including dual twist and padlock fastenings and protective metal feet in gold-tone hardware. It’s crafted from supple Swift leather chosen for its ability to absorb the etoupe hue.
